MAX TRANSFER UPDATES: Mateo Kovacic joins Manchester City

Date:

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Croatian star Mateo Kovacic on a four-year deal reportedly worth £25million.

The Croatia star’s new contract will keep him at the Etihad until the summer of 2027, and the announcement on Tuesday evening makes him the club’s first signing of the window.

The 29-year-old midfielder is widely tipped to replace outgoing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who joined Barcelona as a free agent after a final record-breaking season as club captain.

Kovacic joined Chelsea in 2018 from Real on an initial loan before signing a permanent deal a year later.

The ex-Inter Milan star went on to register a total of six goals and 15 assists in 221 appearances at Stamford Bridge.
