Hearts of Oak rose from the ashes to stun former Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions Bibiani Goldstars on their perch.
The Phobians went behind ten minutes into the matchday two encounter at Dan’s Park through experienced striker Kwame Opoku.
Having begun the 2026/27 season in a blistering fashion, Hearts were looking to maintain their form heading into their away game against Goldstars on Sunday.
The introduction of former Accra Lions captain Dominic Nsobila for Emmanuel Amankwah at halftime turned out to be the catalyst for the Phobians’ turnaround.
Henry Boateng combined well with Yaw Amankwah Baafi to draw Hearts level in the 50th minute, sparking the comeback.
Boateng turned goalscorer five minutes later as the Phobians took the lead for the first time in the game, sending the visiting fans into frenzy.
Black Stars of Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare got down well to save a late penalty, keeping the lead intact.
Hearts of Oak managed to hold on to the lead for the maximum three points to harden their grip at the summit of the league standings.
