John Mensah: Christian Atsu was humble and respectful

Date:

The late Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu has been remembered by former Black Stars defender John Mensah, who called him “respectful and humble.”

Despite not having played with Christian Atsu, John Mensah revealed that he had heard only positive things about the man.

He claimed that Christian Atsu’s sad tragedy had left him broken and told the family that the ex-football players will help them during this difficult period.

“Christian Atsu was respectful and humble. I didn’t play with him but I saw him a couple of times. What happened was sad and unfortunate. We send our condolences to the family and we assure them of our support. Every Ghanaian is hurt by the development and we send our regrets to the family,” he said.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023, John Mensah visited the family of Christian Atsu with the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG).

Sammy Kuffour, the team’s president, gave the family several crates of bottled water.

After it was determined that a body found at a rescue site in Hatay, Turkey, belonged to Christian Atsu, Ghanaians were forced into a state of mourning on Saturday, February 18.

Christian Atsu had been missing since the earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on February 6, and the search for him had been intense. After that, his remains were transported to Ghana, where a quick ceremony was held to welcome him to the nation.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the top government representative present at the ceremony, declared that the government would work with the family to give Atsu a respectable funeral.

The busiest site has been his family’s home in Accra, where former teammates, celebrities, and politicians have flocked to pay their respects.

His family has decided that the one-week observance will begin on March 4.
