Coach Otto Addo was retained by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) despite Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 due to the following reasons:

  1. Long-Term Vision: The GFA expressed confidence in Addo’s strategic plan for the Black Stars, believing in his ability to develop a cohesive and competitive team for future tournaments.
  2. Technical Review and Assessment: Following a review of his technical report and overall impact since his reappointment, the GFA found elements in his approach that warranted continuity, despite recent setbacks.
  3. Belief in Redemption: The GFA’s decision highlights a commitment to stability, with the view that Addo’s experience and understanding of the team could better position Ghana for future successes, such as qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
  4. Consistency in Leadership: Instead of making abrupt changes, the GFA appears to value maintaining a consistent coaching structure, which could help in rebuilding team morale and tactical understanding.
  5. Focus on Long-Term Objectives: While short-term results have been disappointing, the GFA’s decision suggests they are prioritizing broader objectives over immediate success, giving Addo the opportunity to implement his vision.

This decision, however, places significant pressure on Addo to deliver results, especially in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, as public criticism over inconsistent performances remains strong.
