2025 Press Freedom Day: GJA To Honour Media Champions

Date:

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced plans to host a special evening event on May 2 to honour distinguished individuals and institutions as part of this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) celebrations.

Describing the initiative as an “innovation in the commemoration of WPFD,” the GJA aims to spotlight the significant contributions of media champions in society.

“Last year, we introduced a new approach by hosting the national WPFD ceremony in Koforidua, marking the first time in recent memory that the event was held outside Accra,” GJA President Albert Dwumfour stated on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

“This year, we will use the occasion to recognize individuals and institutions that have supported the GJA and the media industry. Instead of the usual daytime activities, the highlight will be an evening awards ceremony,” he added.

The event, scheduled for May 2, 2025, is expected to enhance the celebration of WPFD in Ghana and further promote press freedom.
