The senior national football team of Ghana, known as the Black Stars, is set to depart for Luanda later today in preparation for their crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier match against Angola, scheduled for Friday, November 15.
The team officially commenced their training camp on Monday, holding their initial session at the Accra Sports Stadium. The training session featured the participation of eight players as the squad began preparations for the decisive encounter. By Tuesday, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that 14 additional players had joined the camp, leaving only Ebenezer Annan yet to report.
The Black Stars concluded their final training session on Tuesday evening, ensuring they are well-prepared ahead of their departure for Angola. Upon arrival in Luanda, the team will have a day to acclimate and will conduct an additional training session on Thursday to fine-tune their strategy and adapt to the conditions before the match.
The squad has seen significant changes, with notable absences that have raised eyebrows among supporters. Midfield general Thomas Partey was excluded from the current roster by head coach Otto Addo, a decision that comes alongside withdrawals by key players such as Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, and Joseph Paintsil, who have been ruled out due to various reasons.
Ghana’s upcoming fixture will be played at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, where they will face the Palancas Negras, the Angolan national team, who have already secured their qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.\
This adds to the pressure on the Black Stars, who currently sit third in Group F with only two points from four matches. The team trails both Angola and Sudan and faces a challenging path to secure a spot in the tournament.
To keep their qualification hopes alive, the Black Stars must not only achieve victory in their game against Angola but also rely on a favorable outcome in other group matches. Specifically, they need Sudan to drop points in their encounters against Niger and Angola.
The stakes are high, and the team’s focus will be on delivering a strong performance in Luanda before returning home to conclude their qualification campaign with a match against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
The upcoming matches will be critical for Ghana’s quest to reach the 2025 AFCON and will require resilience, strategy, and collective effort to overcome the odds and reclaim their place among the continent’s football elite.
