The Black Stars of Ghana ended their 2025 AFCON qualifiers in the lowest place of Group F after a spirited but disheartening 1-2 defeat at home to Niger.
Despite their heroic performances, the Gazelles of Niger were unable to secure a spot at Morocco’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Niger, unsurprisingly, took the lead in the first half through Ousseini Badamassi after heading home from Alhassane’s excellent corner kick in the 22nd minute.
Otto Addo’s men returned from the first half break, appearing determined to avoid yet another home defeat in the round of qualifiers.
It was obvious there are psychological problems with the Black Stars team despite their struggle to appease the home fans, but they managed to equalize through Ghana U-20 striker Jerry Afriyie on his debut in the 67th minute.
Sadly, as poor as they have been throughout the qualifiers, Ghana’s lapse of concerntration resulted in Oumar Sako heading home the winning goal for the Nigeriens in 90+2 minutes before Mohammed Kudus’ dramatic last gasp penalty miss.
With Ghana’s latest disapointment, many fans are calling for the dismissal of Otto Addo as all faith in him is lost.
