Yaw Preko, a former Hearts of Oak assistant coach, believes the poor quality of the Accra Sports Stadium surface provided the club an advantage in their Super League match against Asante Kotoko.
According to Yaw Preko , the ex-Medeama coach , unlike the Baba Yara Stadium surface, Kotoko’s possession-based game could not be executed owing to the pitch.
Speaking to an Accra-based FM station, Yaw Preko explained how Kotoko could not dominate the match.
“I realized that Asante Kotoko couldn’t play their normal game like they do in Kumasi because of the current nature of the Accra Sports Stadium pitch. The balls weren’t flowing smoothly for Kotoko to dominate play in the middle which helped Hearts”
Regardless of the outcomes or the surface, the game finished goalless, with both teams creating an exciting encounter.
Following the draw, Hearts of Oak dropped to eighth place with 25 points, while Kotoko extended their lead at the top to seven points.
The Phobians have now gone three games without a win, putting an end to the Porcupines’ winning streak.
Hearts will face Legon Cities in the second round to continue their quest to turn their season around.
Dreams will play Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium in the meanwhile.
