WOMEN’S FA CUP ROUND 32: Epiphany Warriors blight Blessed Ladies

Date:

Epiphany Warriors made history after sealing qualification to the round of 16 of the Women’s FA Cup with a resounding 2-0 win over Blessed Ladies in the round of 32 fixture at the Tuba Astro Turf on Sunday afternoon.

The 2022/23 Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA) Women’s Division One Group A champions breezed past their opponents for the second consecutive season in the competition. They eliminated Blessed Ladies in the round of 64 in their last-season matchup.

Blessed Ladies were hoping to make it to the last 16 after being handed a home advantage in the draw, but a goal at either side of halftime ensured Epiphany Warriors would get to play in their first-ever round of 16 fixture in the FA Cup.

Warriors skipper Gifty Acheampong gave her side the lead just three minutes into the game after slotting home from close range. The away side will hold onto the lead despite missing several chances to increase it.

Epiphany Warriors went two goals clear in the 56th minute after midfielder Ernestina Tetteh calmly converted a shot after being set up with a lovely pass from teammate Jennifer Darwah. The defending League champions will hold on to their healthy lead to book a place in the round of 16.

Giving his impressions after the game, the head coach of Epiphany Warriors, Adam Tamimu, praised his players for recording their first win of the season with a spirited performance.

He said, “We trained hard for this game, and we deserved the victory. Our opponents [the Blessed Ladies] were good, and they showed it in the second half.”

When asked about his team’s chances in the ongoing FA Cup campaign, coach Tamimu answered, “We are still marching forward.”

Epiphany Warriors will know their round of 16 opponents when the draw takes place in the coming days. They kick off their league season with a crunch opening-day fixture against La Liga on the third weekend of January.
