Wednesday UCL Wrap: Saka shines for Arsenal, City woes continues

Date:

Bukayo Saka scored twice as Arsenal beat Monaco to strengthen their position as one of the sides likely to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Manchester City’s current malaise continued on Wednesday as they were beaten by Juventus to deal a big blow to their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stage.

Dusan Vlahovic’s header and Weston McKennie’s volley in the second half secured all three points for the home side, boosting their own hopes of progressing automatically to the next stage as one of the top eight sides in the league phase of the competition.

Tammy Abraham scored a late winner as AC Milan overcame a dogged Red Star Belgrade at San Siro.

Rafael Leao’s opener and sixth goal of the season – a ruthless finish that followed a beautiful first touch, but cancelled out in the second half by Radonjic before Abraham’s late goal to hand Milan all three points.

Second-half substitute Ferran Torres scored twice to help Barcelona win at Borussia Dortmund and move up to second in the Champions League table.

A stunning strike from Julian Alvarez and an Antoine Griezmann double helped Atletico Madrid to a comfortable win over Slovan Bratislava.

Feyenoord boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League with a comfortable 4-2 win over Sparta Prague in Rotterdam.

The result leaves the Dutch side 18th in the table but only three points adrift of the top eight places with fixtures against Bayern Munich and Lille still to come.

Stuttgart boosted their Champions League knockout hopes with a crushing win over Swiss side Young Boys.

Amar Haraldsson secured a 3-2 victory for LOSC Lille against SK Sturm Graz in a breathtaking encounter.
