We Will Beat Nigeria Again — Benin Captain

Cheetahs of Benin Republic captain, Steve Mounie, has warned the Super Eagles that Gernot Rohr’s side is the only team to beat Nigeria amid the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mounie spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of Benin Republic’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Uyo on Tuesday.

Recall that Mounie scored in the first leg to inspire the Cheetahs to a historic 2-1 win against the Super Eagles, which is Nigeria’s only defeat in the ongoing qualification campaign.

However, Mounie believes Benin can repeat their previous win against Nigeria when both teams clash in Uyo.

“I did not even notice the statistics. It shows that we have our chance tomorrow [Tuesday],” Mounie told reporters.

“If we are the only team that beat Nigeria, I guess we are the only team that beats them again. Actually, we will take our chances tomorrow and get this qualification.

“I thought about that earlier. Maybe I didn’t score against Rwanda to score against Nigeria tomorrow [Tuesday], that is what I hope for,” he said.
