The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, situated at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been vandalized by unknown individuals.
This is the second time the monument, unveiled to honor the former president’s contributions during his tenure, has been damaged.
According to a source close to the police, they received a report about the incident and promptly arrived at the scene. “By the time we got there, the damage had already been done,” the source disclosed.
The statue was completely toppled and destroyed, with significant damage from the head to the knee area. The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 13, 2025.
Initially unveiled on November 6, 2024, the statue had previously undergone repairs in December 2024 after a noticeable hole was discovered at the back of its left leg. The earlier damage sparked widespread speculation, with some attributing it to deliberate vandalism and others suspecting structural defects.
The recent act of vandalism underscores growing concerns over the security of public monuments in the region.
