Gifty Oware-Mensah, former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), is set to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday afternoon and present herself to the National Investigation Bureau (NIB). However, inside sources indicate that she will be arrested upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and taken into custody for interrogation.

The NIB is probing a major payroll fraud scandal at the NSS, where thousands of ghost names were allegedly used to siphon off GH₵50 million monthly in fraudulent allowances. As Deputy Executive Director overseeing finance and administration, Oware-Mensah is considered a key witness in the ongoing investigation.
Government officials remain tight-lipped on the duration of the alleged scheme, but over the weekend, an extradition process was announced to bring back key suspects who have reportedly fled the country.
Reports suggest that top figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under whose administration Oware-Mensah served, are mobilizing at the airport to escort her to the NIB offices. This has sparked speculation about the political dimensions of the case.
Oware-Mensah is not the only former official under scrutiny. The NIB has already detained and questioned Kwaku Ohene Djan, another former Deputy Executive Director of the NSS, in connection with the ghost names payroll fraud.
With the scandal making national headlines, all eyes are on the NIB’s next move. Will Oware-Mensah be granted bail or face extended detention? How deep does the alleged corruption scheme go?
