The president of the University Teachers Association Ghana (UTAG) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Mr Stephen Osei Akyiaw, has pleaded to the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security in the university communities.
Mr Akyiaw made this plea on the back of the arrest of a native of the Effutu Gyahadze district, who cold-bloodedly murdered Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeker.
The deceased was discovered by the police following a missing person’s report filed by his colleagues on May 21, 2025.
Speaking on the Max Morning Show on Tuesday, May 27, Mr Akyiaw said, “Although we appreciate then apprehension of the suspect, we plead that they [police] investigate further into the incident.”
The UTAG-UEW president assured that the lecturers will not down their tools out of fear of being attacked, considering how Prof. Amedeker was killed and buried behind his residence.
