Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi will miss the 2025 Unity Cup set to come off in two weeks.
Awoniyi, 27, is currently in an induced coma after having a first surgery on a serious abdominal injury.
The Super Eagles star rammed into the post in the 88th minute of the 2-2 draw against Leicester City at home when he tried to get to the end of Elanga’s cross.
The bulky striker was expected to be part of the roster of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to face the Black Stars of Ghana in London on May 28, 2025.
Replacing a player of the stature of Awoniyi wouldn’t be easy, but Nigeria is blessed with many attacking options—from Victor Osimhen to KRC Genk striker, Tolu Arokodare.
