UCC wins 28th edition of GUSA games with 48 medals

Date:

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), host of the 28th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games, emerged as overall champions with an impressive performance, winning 48 medals across various sports, including basketball, hockey, tennis, netball, volleyball, and athletics.

This victory marks a strong comeback for UCC, who last dominated the GUSA Games in 2020 with 64 medals.

After a quieter performance in 2024, UCC bounced back in 2025, securing 18 gold, 14 silver, and 16 bronze medals. The competition, held at the university’s sports complex, concluded on Friday, January 18. UCC fielded a powerful team of 200 student-athletes, excelling in events such as women’s and men’s volleyball, men’s hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s tennis, and women’s netball.

The University of Ghana (UG) finished second with 39 medals, including 14 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) took third place with 35 medals, consisting of 13 gold, 13 silver, and 9 bronze.
