Thomas Partey to the late Christian Atsu: ‘It’s difficult to accept you are gone, my friend’

Date:

Thomas Partey, a midfielder for the Black Stars, responded to the passing of his former teammate Christian Atsu.

After a 12-day search of the rubble left behind by the earthquake that devastated southern Turkey and parts of Syria on February 12, it was determined that Atsu had passed away on February 18.

“It’s difficult to accept you are gone, my friend. I still can’t believe it. Christian, this is a hard pill to swallow. May God grant you a better place, my friend,” Thomas Partey, in a Facebook post hours after the death was confirmed, wrote.

He joins current captain Andre Dede Ayew, former captain Asamoah Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso, Michael Essien, and Stephen Appiah as the newest teammate to offer condolences to Atsu’s family.

Both his football team Hatayspor and manager Nana Sechere, who was in Turkey to assist in the rescue attempts, confirmed Atsu’s demise.

About Christian Atsu

On January 10, 1992, Christian Atsu was born in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region’s Ada Foah.

Christian Atsu admitted in a previous interview that he struggled to make ends meet as a child. He once claimed that his family’s devastating loss of his father made things even more tough for them.

In 2013, Atsu became well-known after Chelsea made contact with him after identifying him as a long-term prospect.

Christian Atsu was acquired by Chelsea for £3.5 million from FC Porto. He was then loaned to Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, AFC Bournemouth, and Málaga.

After joining Chelsea, Atsu began to enjoy the money associated with playing football. At Newcastle, he was reportedly earning £32,000 per week, making him one of the wealthiest Ghanaian footballers as of 2016.

Christian Atsu signed up with Hatayspor as a free agent in September 2022 and revealed receiving a signing bonus of almost $500,000.
