By reaching a loan agreement with Roma, Chelsea has put an end to the controversy surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s near future.
To work with his former manager Jose Mourinho again, the 30-year-old will accept a wage reduction, with Chelsea collecting slightly over £5 million as a loan fee.
Chelsea had planned to offload Lukaku this summer, but the Belgian rejected offers from Juventus, Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, and Inter Milan before deciding against all three.
In response to discovering that Lukaku had been speaking with Juventus, Inter made offers of £23 million and £26 million before withdrawing.
Tiago Pinto and Dan Friedkin, two representatives of Roma, are expected to board a private plane with Lukaku and go to Rome’s Campino airport at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
