SIM REGISTERATION: Sam George Declares Severe Punishments

Date:

Severe punishments have been declared by the government under a new SIM registration exercise, which includes the deactivation of Ghana cards linked to frequent mobile money fraud and the disabling of stolen mobile phones across all networks.

The minister for communications, digital technology and innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, publicised these sanctions during a stakeholder engagement held in Accra on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations.

The minister revealed that anyone caught indulging in these fraudulent acts will be denied access to telecommunication services.

“If the same Ghana card is found to be involved in more than one fraudulent registration of a number used in mobile money fraud, that Ghana Card will be blocked and barred from being able to register a SIM in the country. Which means that you can no longer get telecom services,” he stated.

“I beseech all consumers, protect your personal identity. Don’t register SIMs for someone else,” the minister said as he advised the general public to secure their personal data and avoid registering SIM cards for others.
