Senior Communication Manager at the Ghana Football Association, Sheikh Tophic Abdul Kadir, has refuted unfounded claims by Rev. Osei Kofi.
On Wednesday, March 19, two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Rev. Osei Kofi, in an interview on the Sports Pack show on Max FM, asserted that Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, has been cursed.
According to the 85-year-old retired winger, the country has, over the years treated past players poorly, failing to support them when it was needed.
Sheikh Tophic, upon hearing Osei Kofi’s comments, which he considered unfortunate. He insisted that there is no such thing as the Black Stars being under a curse after a number of the past players had been compensated for their dedication, including the retired player.
“In fact amongst the ex-players, some are not happy with these comments. Even at the time they were playing there were benefits they also got from the national team. After Mahama compensated them, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also came and gave them money,” he said.
The Islamic scholar, Sheikh Tophic, opined it is just an issue of era. The eras after that of Osei Kofi’s have enjoyed better and higher remuneration for their services to the country.
