REPORTS: Odotei, Akambi to step down after Christmas

Date:

Hearts of Oak board members Sowah Odotei and Alhaji Akambi are reportedly set to step down from their roles amidst increasing pressure from supporters and other board members.

It is being reported that the majority shareholder of the club, Togbe Afede XIV, is willing to sacrifice his two wingmen in an attempt to help the club get back to its glory days. The decision to sack the duo has been described as ‘painful’ and has taken several days and consultations to arrive at.

Fans of the club have incessantly asked for the resignation of the duo, with many alluding to the club’s recent misfortunes with the two board members.

Hearts of Oak finished the 2022–23 season without silverware and a substantive coach, a situation they currently find themselves in after exiting the MTN FA Cup in the first round and parting ways with their head coach, Martin Koopman, a few weeks ago.

The club is currently under the care of assistant coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru since the sacking of Koopman on matchday 10.

The coach has yet to convince the majority of the club’s fanbase that he is good enough for the job after winning just one out of the six games he’s managed.

Most Hearts of Oak fans have maintained that sacking the two board members is just the ‘sacrifice’ needed to get the club back on its feet.

The most recent demonstration by the fans to have the two board members sacked took place during the club’s 1-1 draw against Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, with aggrieved fans displaying placards with inscriptions like:

“Who is the team manager?”
“We don’t need Nyaho, Akambi, and Odotei.”
“Remember what he did at King Faisal. NPP rejects Odotei.”

ODOTEI AND AKAMBI

It is believed the pressure from the vociferous supporters is beginning to gain management’s attention, and a critical decision could be made in the coming days.

A crunch was held days ago between management to deliberate on the issue. The majority of management voted “YES” to the sacking of the duo.

Togbe Afede XIV seems to have had enough of the chaos, and all that remains to be seen is his final decision to drive the duo away from the club.

Could this be the end of the Odotei and Akambi era at Hearts of Oak?
