Repatriated Ghanaians From SA Yet to Receive Promised Jobs

Date:

In March 2026, Ghana began to repatriate nearly 2000 Ghanaians residing in South Africa following a series of anti-immigrant attacks.

Fearing for the safety of his people, the president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, began evacuation processes as the world saw deadly attacks on other Africans living in South Africa, including Ghanaians.

The government of Ghana promised to help the repatriated Ghanaians rebuild their lives after being forced to leave behind years of investment.

After touching down on home soil, Kofi Baah, one of the over 1,900 returnees, confirmed they all received money to help them settle. He was given an amount of GHS5000, which he said he used to rent an apartment.

However, the most important promise yet to be fulfilled is the provision of jobs for the skilled, Kofi Baah revealed on Max TV’s Max Morning Show.

“For four months now. We have not heard anything from them [the Ghana government]. We were called to send our CVs to them. I am a driver. Till now, I have heard nothing from them,” he said.

He therefore called on the government to remember its promises to them because some of the returnees are struggling.

Some members of the group are receiving a level of support from “Shepherd’s Friends”, a not-for-profit organisation helping them to resettle.
