REGSEC announce a ban on motorbikes after 7:00 pm

Date:

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced a ban on motorbikes after 7:00 pm and suspended an inter-tribal football competition following the fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase, in Asewase on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

In an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, July 24, REGSEC introduced four key measures to curb further violence:

1. A curfew on motorbikes after 7:00pm until further notice.

2. A ban on unlicensed motorbikes or those without functioning lights.

3. Immediate suspension of the ongoing inter-tribal football competition.

4. Prohibition of smocks for motorbike riders, citing concerns that suspects use them to conceal weapons.

Additionally, REGSEC has deployed joint Police and Military patrols to hotspot areas to “ensure peace and protect lives and property.”

“The REGSEC assures the general public of the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful society. All necessary measures are being implemented to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice,” the statement signed by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister said.
