The first president ever to be democratically elected to a non-consecutive second term in the history of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has assured the boxing fraternity of Ghana of his unflinching support.
Being an avid sports fan, H.E. Mahama was present at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Sunday, December 22, 2024, for the Ultimate Legacy boxing bonanza under the auspices of Legacy Rise Sports by his son Sharaf Mahama.
Speaking at the event after he was presented with a portrait by the current president of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Abraham Kotei Neequaye, the president-elect aimed at returning Ghana to the pinnacle of boxing.
“We conceptualized this arena to bring up boxing in our country; unfortunately, boxing is not fully utilized the way we expected it to be. I want to assure you that we are going to build a full complement of the arena with the gyms and everything so that we can bring it up as one of the top sports in Ghana,” he said on Max TV.
Often lauded for his knack for infrastructural development, H.E. Mahama, though commissioning the Bukom Boxing Arena in November 2016, is eager to provide further development of the facility to help in grooming future world champions in boxing from Ghana.
