2024-25 GPL: We should’ve beaten Kotoko – Karim Zito

Date:

Karim Zito, head coach of Dreams Football Club, has bemoaned his team’s ineffectiveness in front of goal against Asante Kotoko in a matchday 14 encounter.

Dreams FC went into the game needing maximum points to claw out of the danger zone of the Ghana Premier League standings on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Tuba Astro Turf in Kasoa, Central Region.

However, it was Asante Kotoko, fresh from their victory against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in the previous matchday encounter, who took a 0-2 lead in the first-half.

Baba Yahaya completed a superb move by the Porcupine Warriors to give them a 0-1 lead in the 39th minute before former Bofoakwa Tano captain Saaka Dauda doubled their lead three minutes later with a sharp tap-in.

Former Hearts of Oak striker Joseph Esso managed to pull one back for the one-time CAF Confederations Cup semi-finalists in the 58th minute to give Zito’s side a fighting chance but was unable to avoid yet another home defeat.

After the game, Karim Zito, visibly distraught by the defeat, lamented his team’s inability to take their opportunities against Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum’s Asante Kotoko.

“We showed them [Kotoko] too much respect in the first-half so they dismantled us. But even with that comparing both teams’ chances, we should’ve beaten them in the first half. They utilized the chances they had, unlike us… I am not so happy with the result, but there is progression in our football, he said to Nana Darkwa Gyasi on Max TV.

Dreams FC will travel away to the Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea, with the hope of at least avoiding defeat to give the a fighting chance of staying up in the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
