Nigerian sprint icon, Tobi Amusan has been honored with a massive billboard in her hometown, Ogun State, ahead of her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This recognition comes as she has been confirmed as Nigeria’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony, symbolizing the nation’s hopes for her success in the upcoming competition.
Amusan, a track and field star specializing in the women’s 100m hurdles, is one of Nigeria’s top medal contenders.
She holds the world record in her event and is highly favored to secure a medal, potentially making her the first Nigerian to do so in this discipline since Glory Alozie won silver at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
This billboard is a significant gesture from Ogun State, highlighting their pride in Amusan’s achievements and offering her visible support as she prepares for the Olympics.
It marks the first time in a long while that a Nigerian state has publicly honored one of its athletes in this manner during the Olympics.
Amusan’s journey to Paris 2024 follows her previous Olympic appearances at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021.
Since then, she has established herself as one of the world’s premier hurdlers. With the backing of her hometown and the entire nation, Amusan aims to achieve a successful outing at the Games, potentially securing a gold medal and further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest hurdlers in history.
