One person has died and 14 others are battling life-threatening injuries following a collision involving a Toyota Hiace and a Peugeot saloon car at Trey Court on the Akuse-Akosombo Highway in the Eastern Region.
The accident, which occurred on Monday, October 26, has left one passenger dead and several others requiring emergency medical attention, according to information from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The deceased, a male passenger, reportedly suffered severe trauma and died at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to the mortuary at St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Akuse for preservation and autopsy.
Fourteen other passengers sustained serious injuries, including severe fractures and head trauma. They were rushed to the emergency ward of the same hospital, where medical personnel are working to stabilise their conditions.
Meanwhile, the Akuse District Police Command has begun investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Preliminary assessments suggest that wrongful overtaking may have contributed to the crash. However, the suspected cause has yet to be officially confirmed, and an investigation report is still awaited.
The incident underscores the potentially devastating consequences of road crashes and the importance of responsible driving, particularly on busy highways.
Authorities have therefore urged motorists travelling along the Akuse-Akosombo Highway to exercise caution, observe prescribed speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.
