Oliver Barker reacts to news of IGP Dampare’s sacking

Date:

Fix the Country convenor Oliver Barker-Vormawor has listed four reasons that contributed to the sacking of Dr. George Akufo-Dampare as the Inspector General for Police.

The University of Cambridge-trained activist has had a number of run-ins with the police, especially during the Nana Akufo-Addo administration with Dr. George Akufo-Dampare in charge.

Dampare, a former university lecturer, who was appointed on July 21, 2021, has been heavily criticized by Oliver Barker in a social media post detailing his mishandling of recent sociopolitical protests before John Dramani Mahama assumed his role as president of Ghana.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s reasons are as follows:

1. The way he oversaw the brutal treatment of Democracy Hub protestors, from #OccupyJulorbiHouse to #StopGalamseyProtest. This includes way he set his sights on me, doing almost everything in his power to use the police force against me and our other convenors.

I believe in that he was extremely used by the former regime. He was their lapdog and he delivered!

2. The way he empowered some criminal elements within the Police PID; who committed crimes and had absolutely zero regard for due process, human life or justice. The committed crimes that even Duterte who is before The Hague for crimes against humanity will be shy to imagine. Everyone I know in the police hierarchy and rank and file were complaining about the abuses of the PID guys. But everyone treated them as untouchables because they were Damapre’s own terror squad.

3. His lies! I have never seen a more dishonest bible touting individual. He comes second only to Ofori-Atta for me. Despite this, he went ahead curating PR events of babies kissing his hand and creating such a PR driven service to mask his extreme dishonesty.

4. His total disregard for other Senior Police hierarchy. He had his own click and camp. Those he liked he kept close. Those who he didn’t like felt it paa. He was petty, vindictive and just an extremely insecure man!
