Minority caucus claims credit for Black Queens success

Date:

The minority caucus in the parliament of Ghana is claiming credit for the current success of the Black Queens of Ghana.

The member of parliament for the Old Tafo constituency, Hon. Vincent Assifuah, astonishingly, attributed the Black Queens semifinal feat at the ongoing WAFCON down to the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Hon. Assifuah, it was under the government of the NPP that “deliberate” investment was made into women’s football in Ghana, especially the Women’s Premier League.

“This achievement is undeniably built on the foundation of the previous New Patriotic Party. We took deliberate steps to reposition women’s sports as a national priority,” he said.

“It was under the leadership of the NPP that we witnessed the revamping of the WPL through structured funding and logistical backing,” he added while addressing the August House.

The Black Queens have defied odds to reach the semifinal despite a rocky start to the competition.

A win over a more heavily invested national team, the host of the tournament, Morocco, will mean a final against either Nigeria or South Africa.
