Life is a puzzle that no one can solve. Dare to try, and you won’t know the answer to it. This puzzle has got many Ghanaians thinking as to why death had been inevitable among some great entertainers who were young in the industry and wished to listen to their melodies more.
As some musicians died through a natural call, others were also called impromptu, with various crashes on the roads at the time when their buds had blossomed in the industry.
Max.com.gh presents to you four talented young musicians whose dreams were shortened in the industry through an accident:
1.Terry Bonchaka
He was a Ghanaian hip-hop and dancehall artist who brought a whole new level of energy, fashion, and dance into the industry in the early 2000s.
He inspired many talents with his afro-fusion style, characterized by a signature comb in his hair.
Terrence Nii Okang Mensah Adjetey, as he was affectionately known, was active in the Ghanaian entertainment scene from 2001 to 2003. He rocked many with his tracks, Lomna Va, Ghana Lady, Pulele, I Am Aware, and Asem Ben Ni.
He became a top-notch musician with his unique singing style. Sadly, at the peak of his career, a new twist of fate mingled with his craft.
The budding musician died in a car accident while returning from a performance at a Hall Week celebration that was held at the University of Ghana.
He had his basic education at Ewit Greenwich Classical Academy and his secondary education at Adisadel College. He died on October 30, 2003. He was just 21 years old when he saw his untimely demise.
2. Vybrant Faya
Vybrant Faya was from the Shatta Movement Family (SMF) and got many on the dancefloor with his hit dancehall track, “Mampi.”
He died in an accident in the year 2016, when he was just 29 years old. He was killed by a motorcyclist on the Tema Motorway. He was privately known as Emmanuel Kojo Quayeson.
According to his manager, Mr. Logic, his death was revealed to them by some prophets and spiritualists, but Vybrant Faya did not follow his instructions and followed the paths of his family. He was specifically told by spiritualists not to cross roads, which kept Mr. Logic in a hotel.
Eventually, the artist did not stick to the rules and went to meet his death when crossing the road at the Tema Motorway. He died on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the 37th Military Hospital.
His track Mampi was released in 2014, which earned him nominations for Artiste of the Year and Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year at the 2015 VGMA. Mampi was rated as one of the best classic dancehall songs in Ghana.
3. Ebony Reigns
Ebony Reigns, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, was discovered by Bullet from “Ruff n Smooth” fame in 2017. She became the first artist to be signed by Rufftown Records.
Her promising career was cut short on February 8, 2018, together with her assistant and longtime friend, Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri, and her soldier bodyguard, Atsu Vondee, in a fatal car accident while returning to Accra from Sunyani, where she had paid a visit to her mother.
She captivated audiences with her sultry voice and fearless approach to her craft. Her breakthrough hit, “Sponsor,” quickly established her as a force to be reckoned with.
“90s Bad Gyal” was awarded the 2018 VGMA Artist of the Year award after the most spectacular breakout year in Ghanaian music history.
She fearlessly challenged societal norms through her music, addressing social issues and empowering young women with songs like “Maame Hw3,” “Aseda,” “Hustle” and “Sponsor,” among many others.
Her melodies endured through her unforgettable moments and the indomitable mark she left on the hearts of those who cherished her artistry.
The void left by her is palpable, but her legacy lives on through the timeless imprint she left on Ghanaian music.
4. Nukre
Formerly known as Shatta Zolla, he was an emerging highlife artist who was involved in an accident on Sunday, June 22, at about 11 p.m. at Tesano in the Greater Accra Region.
Nana Kyei Fosu, popularly known as Nukre, was in a taxi heading towards Asofa when a truck collided into their car.
The driver didn’t die, but the body of the artist was deposited at the police mortuary. Nukre is survived by a wife and daughter.
He rose to fame after releasing his hit track “Obinim” in 2019, which featured dancehall diva Ak Songstress.
The track was a party banger that had a mixture of controversy and fun as it talked about renowned Ghanaian pastor Obinim, who appeared in dreams to give lotto numbers.
As many saw it as a praise for projecting Obinim’s lotto numbers, others also saw it as a mockery. And even insinuated that it was talking about something private concerning women rather than what the song appeared to be at first sight.
May their souls rest in perfect peace!
