Kwesi Ernest, the manager of Bernice Offei, has confirmed that the gospel songstress was suffering from dementia prior to her death.
According to him, the veteran gospel singer battled with Alzheimer’s disease, which caused lasting memory loss that disrupted her daily life.
Speaking on a phone interview with the Max Morning Show to confirm the death of the “Life Is Short” hitmaker, Kwesi Ernest stated that the singer’s health deteriorated after a few days; her family found her when she went missing.
” For four to five years, she had been battling with dementia that affected her brains. And when someone is sick of dementia, it affects the daily life of the person. She left home, and the ailments triggered so she couldn’t locate her house. After the initial search by the family wasn’t yielding results, they made the search public, and they later found her,” he said.
Kwesi Ernest stated that Bernice Offei was rushed to the hospital by her family after she was found, but on Saturday, her health deteriorated and she died.
Bernice Offei died at age 63 and is known for songs including Hold On, Nkyinkyim, Medo Wo, Don Bi Rebo and His Love For Me, among many others.
Before pursuing music, she was a professional banker at Standard Chartered Bank and earned an MPhil in Crop Science from the University of Ghana. After graduating from Achimota Senior High, she later obtained an MSc in Information Technology in the UK.
Bernice Offei had received several awards to her name and was acknowledged for her songwriting ability and the manner in which she blended twi with English in her songs.
