#MaxEntertainment: Register for SSNIT so you don’t come begging – Smart Nkansah to young musicians

The founder of the Sweet Talks Band, Smart Nkansah, has advised contemporary musicians to open Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) accounts and save for their future.

That, he said, will avert the recurrence of musicians soliciting for funds in their old age.

The guitarist made this passionate plea when he spoke on Max TV Morning Show in Accra on Friday with Kojo Addison.

He said the industry was not rewarding and underscored the need for the recent musicians to act smartly in order not to repeat the mistakes the veterans made, which resulted in them appealing for funds.

“We did not learn this early! If I knew, I would have created a SSNIT account and saved even with the money thrown at me during performances at various concerts. By now, I would have gotten a trust fund, which would have helped me,” Smart Nkansah stated.

He used the opportunity to laud the efforts of a group dubbed “Lovers of Highlife,” which had been set aside by some local people to raise funds to support veteran Highlife musicians.

Chronicling the achievements of the group, Smart Nkansah said the group supported the late K.K. Kabobo, Obuoba J.A. Adofo, Kofi Sammy, and A.B. Crentsil, among other veterans.
