#MAXAFCON2023 UPDATES: Here is why the AFCON means so much to Inaki Williams

Date:

Inaki Williams, a forward for Athletic Bilbao, has revealed that participating in the competition will allow him to honor a commitment he made to his family.

“It means a lot. It is a promise at the family level. It is something nice for me,” he said at the pre-match presser for the game against the game against Sevilla on Monday.

“My grandfather passed away last summer and I know that he would be very excited if he could play in this Africa Cup.”

Williams, who has nine appearances for Ghana, scored the game-winning goal against Madagascar in November’s World Cup qualifying match.

He is expected to train with the Black Stars next week in anticipation of the competition in neighboring Ivory Coast.
