MAX LIFESTYLE: Kantamanto inspired my fashion sense – Elikem The Tailor

Date:

Renowned fashion designer and actor Elikem Kumordzi, also known as Elikem the Tailor, has revealed that his fashion sense was sparked by the recreation of second-hand clothes he purchased from Kantamanto.

He said his interest in fashion developed after dropping out of university when he was in level 300, at the time his father died. During that hardship moment, which compelled him to defer his course, Elikem found a substitute joy in expressing himself through design and later made it a profession.

“I enjoyed creating clothing and expressing my unique style. I would go to Kantamanto, use the little money I had to buy a shirt, change the buttons, and add African print to the sides. I even inscribe my name on it and wear it,” he said.

Narrating his ordeal, which led to the birth of his talent, Elikem indicated that he deferred his course at the University of Ghana, Legon, after his father died ten years ago to enable his mother to cater for his younger brother, who had gained admission to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

He said he did not allow the challenges he was passing through to put a hold on his life. He fully unearthed his talent and made money out of it to pursue his dream as well as his education.

“Although I was facing adversity and challenges, I remained active, following my heart, and doing what my spirit urged me to do,” Elikem added.
