MAX EPL: Arsenal begin title hunt with a bang as Newcastle run riot – Saturday EPL review

Date:

Max Online presents you a recap of today’s English Premier League opening games, including Arsenal’s victory over Nottingham Forest and wins by Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham, and Crystal Palace.

Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest

After a magnificent display of ability from the Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah scored the game’s first goal, and Bukayo Saka followed with a beautiful curling goal into the top corner from outside the box.

The deficit was cut for the visitors by Taiwo Awoniyi, but the Gunners held on to win all three points at the Emirates.

Brighton 4-1 Luton

Brighton defeated newly promoted Luton at the Amex Stadium to start the new campaign on a positive note.

Solly March’s headed goal gave them a 1-0 lead at the half, but they should have had more as Pedro missed a wonderful opportunity from close range and Welbeck hit the post.

After gaining a penalty and converting it to extend their lead in the second half, Pedro did so before Morris scored from the spot at the other end following Dunk’s handball.

Adringa capitalized on a defensive slip-up to regain a two-goal lead, and Ferguson then hit the post a minute later. Late in stoppage time, the young striker added a fourth goal, sneaking in to score at the far post.

Everton 0-1 Fulham

At Goodison Park, Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s goal gave Fulham the victory. Everton had an earlier goal disallowed because Keane thought he had scored.

Bournemouth 1-1 West Ham

Jarrod Bowen’s goal gave West Ham the lead five minutes after the break, but Dominic Solanke’s equalizer in the 83rd minute kept Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth from losing on the first day.

Sheffield United 0-1 Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defeated Sheffield United to start the Premier League campaign. Shortly after halftime, Odsonne Edouard scored the game’s lone goal with help from Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew.

Newcastle 5-1 Aston Villa

After debutant Sandro Tonali made a perfect start, the Magpies went wild as Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson joined the fun to add to Alexander Isak’s double.
