MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Help change the narrative – George Quaye to stakeholders

Date:

Popular actor George Quaye has called on Ghanaians to change the narrative about the local creative industry.

According to him, many viewed the industry as a space for individuals who were not serious and expressed the need for the narrative to be changed.

Speaking in a media interview, the playwright noted that the industry was now vibrant and was ripe for serious business.

He said that, unlike the past, when many joined the industry just for fame and did not attach any seriousness to it, the contemporary landscape is now very different.

George Quaye noted that there was technological advancement and many things have changed for the better; “as such, it shouldn’t be seen as the preserve of the unserious, given the changing trends and the critical role the current space plays in shaping society.”

“It started out as an oral tradition, a concert party, among others, and we were never considered a serious part of anything. The people who started did not have much going for them,” he explained.

George Quaye observed that in the early days, the industry was viewed by its players as a liability, as such players were not deemed to be serious, and he charged the current industry players to actively participate in changing the narrative.
