MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Gospel musicians are guarding themselves against each other – Selassie Brown

Date:

Sensational gospel artist Selassie Brown says gospel musicians in the country are guarding themselves against each other.

According to her, the act has brought disunity among the gospel fraternity.

Speaking exclusively on Max Morning Dew in Accra yesterday, Selassie said individualism has made the industry retrogress instead of progressing.
“Because everyone is doing his or her thing individually, it is difficult for them to open up to the next person,” she said.

She indicated that each person in the industry was hell-bent on surpassing the other, so they became selfish without extending help to other musicians in the promotion of their music.

Selassie noted that gospel musicians in Nigeria helped other young ones rise up and cited Nathaniel Bassey, who promoted female singer Simisola when she started singing.

“But here, because the person is promoting himself or herself, they guard themselves against the next person because they don’t know what the other person might bring. So it is difficult for us to come together because Joe Mettle is his own brand, Piesie is her own brand, and everyone is doing his or her own thing,” she stated.

The musician, who is signed to an international record label through partnership, said it was time Ghanaian musicians rallied behind the young ones and others to project Ghanaian music for the growth of the industry.

“If we can come to understand that we can project Ghanaian music away from who we are, it will help us,” she added.

Selassie Brown is a young gospel singer who has been in the industry for three years after quitting her job as a banker.

She is known for songs including Efata Wo, Thank You, and her new single, Miracle Working God.
