MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Bessa Simons wins MUSIGA Presidential elections

Date:

Veteran musician Bessa Simons has been elected as the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

He won with 324 votes, beating his close contender, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, who polled 66 votes during the MUSIGA national elections, which took place on October 10, 2023, across the various regions of the country.

Bessa, until the election, had been acting as the President of MUSIGA since Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour, left office in 2019.

Other people who won the national executive positions in the union are Reverend Thomas Yawson Yawson (1st Vice President), Abena Ruthy (2nd Vice President), S. K. Agyemang (General Secretary), Reverend Edusa Eyison (National Treasurer), Reverend Gifty Ghansah (National Welfare Officer), and Chizzy Wailer (National Organizer).

The MUSIGA elections had suffered postponements for five consecutive times after the expiration of Obour’s tenure in 2019.

The latest postponement was occasioned by a court injunction secured by two members of the union.

Due to the misunderstanding between some aggrieved members of MUSIGA, the new administration is expected to change fortunes and make the union more attractive to musicians in the country.
