Prosper Boakye scored as the death to hand Medeama Sporting Club their first win at the grand opening of the newly constructed TnA Stadium at Tarkwa, beating Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, addressed spectators and invited guests at the stadium as he lauded Goldfields, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa, and the bankroller of Medeama SC for their immense contribution to ensuring the construction of the stadium, while he expressed optimism for the future of Ghana Football.
The game began as expected with the home side, Medeama, on the front foot and eventually getting the opening goal through Nana Kofi Babil in the 21st minute after having Diwiasi Taylor’s goal disallowed for offside.
Asante Kotoko came into the game late in the first half, began the second half with a much quicker tempo, and finally found the equalizer through Bernard Somuah in the 61st minute. They kept pushing for the winner but were left stunned by Medeama, who got it through Prosper Boakye, who headed home from a free-kick in the 90th minute to send the home fans into wild ecstasy.
The Yellow and Mauves will hope to make the new stadium a fortress in the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season as they take on Accra Lions in the first match.
