Police Grab Armed Robbery Gang

Date:

Obuasi — The operations of a dangerous armed robbery gang have successfully been halted by the Ashanti South Regional Command along the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway in the Ashanti Region following a series of intelligence-led operations conducted on 10th and 11th March 2026.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Command received valid information about a gang of armed men along the Obuasi-Dunkwa stretch, and a police team was quickly deployed to the location.

The suspects exchanged fire with the police upon noticing their arrival, as two of them sustained serious gunshot injuries.

The injured suspects were confirmed as David Aheto (42) and Illiasu Bawa (32). Both suspects were quickly rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

One AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number 68104599, loaded with twenty-eight rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition; one pump-action gun, loaded with five rounds of live BB cartridges; eight additional rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition; and one spent BB cartridge, along with a total of thirty-six rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, were retrieved during the operation.

Another reinforcement exercise was carried out on March 11, 2026, which led to the arrest of many other suspects who were recognised as Aminu Iddrisu, alias 0244; Daniel Debrah; Abdallah Alhassan, and Jemini Usman, alias Babamu.

The Command validates its strict policy against armed robbery and the unlawful possession and trading of firearms. Determined efforts have been put in place in order to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the remaining firearms in their possession.
