Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has announced he will retire from professional football after the 2024 European Championship.
Kroos, 34, has enjoyed an enviable career with both country and club. He has five UEFA Champions League titles to his name with both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, aside from the numerous league trophies.
Kroos was also a member of the German squad that won the World Cup in 2014.
He retired from international football in July 2021 but returned in February following conversations with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level,” Kroos said in a post on his Instagram account.
“I am happy and proud that, in my mind, I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it on my own.”
