JUST IN: Ibrahim Mahama gifts Azumah SUV

Date:

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has honoured legendary boxer Azumah Nelson with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and an undisclosed cash gift in appreciation of his contributions to boxing and national development.

The presentation was held on Monday, June 16, at Mr Mahama’s office in Accra, following a courtesy visit led by Sharaf Mahama—CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of former President John Dramani Mahama—alongside British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

The delegation had earlier attended the Battle of the Beasts boxing show at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Friday, June 13. After the event, they paid a courtesy call on former President Mahama at Jubilee House before visiting Ibrahim Mahama to thank him for his support.

During the ceremony, Mr Mahama praised Azumah Nelson as “arguably Africa’s greatest boxer” and said the gesture was to honour both his ring legacy and his dedication to mentoring young athletes and developing sports in Ghana.

Nelson, visibly touched, expressed his gratitude: “I am grateful to Ibrahim Mahama and Sharaf Mahama for this unexpected gesture. I came to support Sharaf’s boxing efforts—this was a surprise.”

Also present were Anthony Joshua’s team, sports entrepreneur Yaw Sakyi Afari (RITE Sports), businessman Henry Quarshie, and close associates of Legacy Rise Sports and Mr Mahama.

Ibrahim Mahama, founder of Engineers and Planners and Dzata Cement, is well known for his philanthropic work in education, infrastructure, and sports. This donation aligns with his mission to support national heroes and uplift sports culture in Ghana.

The Battle of the Beasts event was part of a broader initiative to elevate Ghanaian boxing’s global visibility and celebrate its enduring legacy.
