JUST IN: Frimpong Manso Appointed Black Starlets Head Coach

Date:

Frimpong Manso, coach of Bibiani GoldStars, has been appointed as the new head coach of Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) named Manso as the successor to Laryea Kingston, who parted ways with the team during the qualifiers for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.

Manso’s primary task will be to build a squad capable of qualifying for the next tournament, after Kingston’s team failed to secure a spot this year.

Manso returns to the role he previously held between 2009 and 2010, having also served as assistant coach for the Black Starlets. His coaching experience with national teams includes a stint as assistant coach of the Black Meteors.

At the club level, Manso has managed several teams, including Stade d’Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Asante Kotoko, Karela United, B.A. United, Kessben FC (now Medeama SC), and Nkoranza Warriors in Ghana.

The Black Starlets have not qualified for the Africa U17 Championship since their runner-up finish in 2017, and Manso aims to return the team to their former glory. The Black Starlets are also the first Ghanaian national team to win a FIFA World Cup, having clinched the U-17 title twice.
