Ghana displayed exceptional prowess at the All-Africa U-19 Badminton Championship in Senegal, solidifying their position as a dominant force in African badminton.

This key tournament not only serves as a prestigious event on the world badminton calendar but also as a crucial opportunity for players to accumulate qualifying points for future competitions.

At the championship, Ghana achieved remarkable success with three gold medals and one bronze. Leslie Nii Addo and Jonathan Ankrah clinched the bronze medal, showcasing their skill and determination. The gold medals were secured in multiple categories:

Mixed Team Relay: The team of Leslie Nii Addo, Leslie Nii Adote, Obapomba Adu-Mintah, Jonathan Ankrah, Andy Amoafa, Moslena Ama Korama, Racheal Quarcoo, and Camara Awa triumphed over Benin with a score of 60-50.

Men’s Triple Event: Leslie Nii Addo, Leslie Nii Adote, Obapomba Adu-Mintah, and Jonathan Ankrah defeated South Africa 3-1 to win gold

Women’s Triples: The team of Moslena Ama Korama, Racheal Quarcoo, and Camara Awa overcame Algeria with a 3-1 victory to secure another gold.

With these achievements, Ghana leads the African standings in the race for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games qualification, which will also take place in Senegal. The championship saw participation from thirteen countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Tunisia, Mauritius, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Congo, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the host nation, Senegal.

The All-Africa U-19 Championship highlighted exceptional talent and competitive spirit among young athletes, reflecting the growing strength and enthusiasm for badminton across the continent.
