GPL WK1: Kotoku Royals records their first top-flight victory Against Accra Lions

Date:

Newcomers Akyem Kotoku Royals kicked off their BetPawa Ghana Premier League debut on Sunday at the Cape Coast stadium with a narrow victory over Accra Lions.

The hosts earned all three points on their maiden appearance in the top division thanks to a goal in the first half from Augustine Boakye.

The powerful forward scored the game’s first goal after 19 minutes by capitalizing on Kotoku Royal’s strong start.

The possessive style of play by Accra Lions instantly roused them from their stupor as they started to gain control of the game.

Youssouf Simpara, a forward from Mali, had a chance to tie the score for the visitors but came up empty-handed.

Kotoku Royals started to ask questions after the break, but it was short-lived because Lions quickly regained control.

Despite sending waves and waves of attackers forward, the visitors were unable to capitalize on their opportunities because Kotoku Royals stubbornly defended in the second half.
