Ghana Police Arrests Driver for Drug Possession

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of a driver for possession of unlawful narcotic drugs.

Police stopped the suspect, Atampugri Akanyani, for a snap duty check at Asanso in the Ashanti Region on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Akanyani was found to have had in his possession 713 slabs of narcotic drugs while driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus registered AC 718-25.

The suspect further attempted to bribe the officers on duty with an amount of GHC150,000 when nine nylon sacks containing the slabs of narcotic drugs were found.

The police are working intensively to trace the source of the suspected narcotic drugs and persons connected to them.
