GES approves 2025/2026 Basic Calendar

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar for basic schools — covering kindergarten, primary, and Junior High Schools.

The calendar, which was announced to school heads, teachers, learners, and stakeholders, outlines term dates, mid-term breaks, and vacation periods.

Below is the academic schedule:

First Term (15 Weeks) Reopening September 2, 2025
Mid-Term Break October 31 – November 3, 2025 (2 days)
Closing December 18, 2025
Vacation December 19, 2025 – January 7, 2026
Second Term (12 Weeks) Reopening January 8, 2026
Mid-Term Break February 26 – February 27, 2026 (2 days)
Closing April 1, 2026
Vacation April 2 – April 20, 2026
Third Term (13 Weeks) Reopening April 21, 2026
Mid-Term Break June 4 – June 5, 2026 (2 days)
Closing July 23, 2026
Vacation Begins July 24, 2026

Other Key Dates

  • BECE 2026: May 4 to May 11, 2026

  • Public Holidays: All national holidays are to be observed within the school year.

GES urged all school heads, teachers, parents, and guardians to take note of the dates and ensure adequate preparation for a smooth academic year.

In a statement dated July 12, the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their efforts during the 2024/2025 academic year, which ends on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
