#FreedomMonth: Ashanti history is the history of Ghana – Anokye Frimpong

Date:

Celebrated lawyer and historian Yaw Anokye Frimpong claimed Ashanti history is the history of Ghana.

According to Anokye Frimpong, the Ashanti people stood up five times to fight the colonial rulers, which led to the death of the governor, Sir Charles McCarthy.

In an interview on the Max Morning Show, the historian disclosed that prominent individuals such as Osei Tutu I and Katakyie Opoku Ware I fought for the Ashanti Empire.

He further noted that Katakyie Opoku Ware established the Ashanti empire between the years of 1730 and 1750.

He added that Otumfuo Nana Prempeh is the longest-serving political prisoner in Africa, with thirty years of imprisonment.

“Nelson Mandela has served twenty-eight years in prison, but the world thinks he is the longest-served political prisoner in Africa,“ he concluded.
