FIFA to Rule on Nigeria’s Protest Against DRC

Date:

FIFA is set to make their ruling today (Monday) on a petition from Nigeria against the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the Super Eagles’ participation at the 2026 World Cup hanging in the balance.

The petition was filed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) back in December.

According to the NFF’s complaint, at least six DR Congo players who were picked in the African play-off final last November were not eligible because they recently changed their nationality.

The Eagles went on to lose 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 after extra time.

In a recent interview, the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, bragged, “We believe we have a strong case, and we’re waiting for FIFA’s decision on our complaints.”

A positive ruling from FIFA would see the three-time African champions take the DR Congo’s place at the Intercontinental Play-Off tournament in March.
