Klaus Gjasula broke Croatian hearts with a stunning 95th equalizer on Wednesday afternoon at the Volksparkstadion as Albania earned a deserving 2-2 draw.
The Red and Blacks, against the run of play, took the lead just 11 minutes into the first of the second round of matches of the 2024 Euros.
Croatia responded with two quick-fire goals from Andre Kramaric and an own goal by Albania’s hero Gjasula in the 74th and 76th minutes, respectively.
However, points were eventually shared by both sides when Gjasula expertly curled home the ball from a delightful cut-back.
Former Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri’s equalizer after Manchester United’s Scott McTominay had given Scotland the lead in the 13th minute at Cologne Stadium ensured Switzerland remained in line to follow Germany in booking their spot in the knockout stages.
In Stuttgart Arena, a magical Jamal Musiala and seasoned Ilkay Gundogan’s goals in a 2-0 win against Hungary saw Germany set a smooth sail into the knockout stages.
